Inside Giga Texas: A Close-Up Look at Tesla’s Manufacturing Ambitions
Newsforce toured Tesla’s Giga Texas factory, getting a behind-the-scenes look at Model Y production, the Cyberbeast, Optimus and the Cybercab.
Newsforce got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look inside Giga Texas, the Tesla factory that bills itself as the largest manufacturing plant on earth.
Patrick Schnecker and Macy Gunnell toured the facility with a group of Nicki Minaj fans known as the Barbz. The visit was part of the lead-up to X Takeover in Austin, where Minaj was scheduled to appear.
On the Model Y assembly line, the scale tells the story. The plant can turn out 65 cars an hour—the equivalent of 1,560 over 24 hours at that pace. Production is roughly 90% automated, with massive robots handling much of the work, though a person still checks every car before it leaves. An opened-up vehicle gave the group a closer look at the engineering beneath the body.
The Cybertruck brought its own display of Texas-sized proportions. The Cyberbeast version on the floor featured enormous wheels, a towering windshield and doors without traditional handles. Up close, its size and angular body were even more striking.
The tour also brought Newsforce face-to-face with Optimus, Tesla’s humanoid robot, for a look at the company’s ambitions beyond cars.
Then there was the Cybercab. Inside, the familiar controls disappear: no steering wheel, no brake or accelerator pedals, and no gear shift. A screen serves as the centerpiece of the stripped-down cabin.
From the Model Y assembly line to Optimus and the Cybercab, the visit offered a look at what Tesla builds today—and what it envisions for the future.
